“What do you want to do now and where do you want to go?”
I think there are many people who are asking this question in their hearts right now.
Because we are! I believe that AMONG's customers and we are similar in some way, and that we move forward with the same sensibilities and rhythms.
A few days ago. It’s been a while since we had a real meeting! Blue atelier coat and cotton scarf with canna pattern , Hebirote◎
It goes without saying that the world is undergoing dramatic changes, but we are also undergoing major changes.
First, I have a report.
It may be sudden, but the dyeing factory that has been solely responsible for AMONG's dyeing since its founding has decided to close down at the end of this month.
Oh, that's it...! ! !
There was a violent earthquake.
So that you don't worry, let me tell you first that we have already decided on the factory where we will dye your hair next. We will not discuss the details yet, but this company is located in Kanagawa Prefecture and is run by artisans who have become independent from the company that is currently dyeing our products. Please don't worry about that!
When we saw our drawings turned into fabric for the first time, we were thrilled...! ! A chrysanthemum handkerchief made from one of the motifs at this time.
However, all the processes (such as washing and sorting after dyeing) have not been done, so from now on it will have to be done in other prefectures. As fabric prices have also increased, I think it will be almost impossible to maintain the same prices as before, but we will let you know when that happens. Of course, we will be more creative than ever and think about ways to bring you fun and energy!
↑ A place where you can mix and create original colors.
I was wondering if I should report this.
I don't want you to feel like you have to rush out and buy something by reporting it because of a strange impact! (Isn't that the case? Always choose with a happy feeling of Wow, I like it, I want it!)
The reason I decided to report this is because I believe that change can come in such forms, and I wanted to reflect on what has happened so far and express my gratitude.
I remember the first time I visited this factory in March 2014.
↑ Where they are being taught how to make dough.
The chairman accepted us, who had no connections or experience, and said, ``If you want to sell it, we'll dye it for you!'' and AMONG started as a textile brand.
I didn't even know how to make textiles.
We both answered without hesitation, "Yes! I'm selling it!!" and we've been able to continue placing orders every season since then, thanks to our customers who have supported us.
This is really true. Speaking of the reality...I learned about it by trying it myself. Things are made through the power of purchasing.
In 2016, when we opened a store in Nakameguro. We still do POPUP regularly at this location. This month is June 24th to 26th.
All the fabrics in front of me now are the result of all the craftsmen and salespeople who have worked at this company up until now, the aging equipment, the large ventilation fan, the stuffy printing room, the dyed cloth and water. It is thanks to the presence of this splendid washing and sorting area with flowing water that it has continued to operate for 64 years.
↑ Process after dyeing. It's quite hot and humid inside!
I felt that I needed to say thank you to the management, everyone who was involved in manufacturing at the site, and the customers who placed orders.
↑ Hand-printing work scene. The spice motif will be dyed.
For us, AMONG was able to start because we were able to meet this dye factory. That's why I was able to meet you, the person reading this.
A single stole, bag, handkerchief... has brought us many connections, wonderful encounters, and experiences, and has taught us the fun and difficulty of work.
↑ Checking that there are no scratches on the plate. Motif of 3 years of peach chestnuts and 8 years of persimmons .
When I felt like I was about to give up, someone would send me happy messages or show me photos of their favorite outfits just as I sensed that I was feeling discouraged, and that's how I am today. I would like to reiterate this as a milestone. I'm really thankful to you.
↑ A wooden spatula used for textile printing.
I believe that many changes will continue to occur for us and for everyone. I think there are many people who are going through major changes right now.
When things change, you can't help but feel excited, anxious, and lonely, but there is no doubt that new doors will open!
↑ The Michi pattern conveys the message of moving forward on an unknown path.
Time always moves towards the future.
Let's continue to move forward together with hope, humor, and excitement! (Nakamura Kaneko)
